Millie’s Legacy: Funding Hope for Rescue Dogs

The Millie Project is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting rescue dogs, expanding community-based animal welfare programs, and ensuring safe, loving spaces for dogs and people to connect. Inspired by Millie, a beloved golden retriever who brought joy to everyone she met, we work to fund and sustain local rescue initiatives that make a difference.

Who We Are

The Millie Project is a non-profit foundation created to honor the legacy of Millie, a beloved golden retriever whose warmth and love inspired a mission to give rescue dogs the second chances they deserve.

We’re dedicated to supporting animal welfare through fundraising, grant-making, and community programs. Our work helps provide critical resources to local rescues, spay and neuter initiatives, and life-changing adoption efforts in Whatcom County and beyond.

Rooted in love and community, we’re here to make sure more dogs get the chance to live the kind of joyful, safe, and adventurous life that Millie did.

Our Partners

We partner with a wide range of organizations dedicated to the animal welfare space. Our mission is to create lasting positive impacts for dogs in need by supporting and collaborating with these groups in meaningful and effective ways.

  • We are proud to be the primary funder of the “Are You My Human?” rescue dog lounge located in Bellingham, Washington. RUMH? serves as a welcoming third space that offers pet adoption services to the public as well as local dog rescue organizations completely free of charge. This unique lounge creates a warm and inviting environment where rescued dogs can find loving homes while connecting with the community.

  • Every dog has a story, and DNA testing helps us tell it.

Thanks to our partnership with Embark, we learn each rescue dog’s breed mix, health background, genetic markers, and behavioral traits, allowing us to support them with personalized care and help them find the perfect home.

  • Because We Care Rescue saves at-risk dogs from overcrowded and high-intake shelters across the western United States. Once they make it to Washington, our lounge becomes their safe landing place, offered to the rescue at no cost, where they can rest, rebuild trust, and meet loving families in a calm, home-like setting.

It’s rescue work powered by community, compassion, and second chances.
